Boka began teaching at a very young age. Specializing in djembe, balafon, dunun and especially singing, he has been teaching and sharing traditional African Music for over 20 years. When in his native Guinea, Boka welcomes students from all over the world including Asia, South America, Europe and the United States. As director of his folkloric group Gnankoumandouwa, where he grew up in Kankan, he was often called to teach new and current band members.

Now based in the Pacific Northwest, he brings his interactive and engaging teaching methods to the people of Seattle and beyond! Boka comes from a place of heart, where students leave with not only a better sense of rhythm, but the historic context of his rich heritage and culture. Offering a depth of experience to his teaching that can only be gained from a griot of his lineage, Boka Kouyaté is pleased to share his expansive knowledge of African Arts with his students.

Boka teaches in schools, group classes and privately.
